Healthy eating is now much more popular than before and rightfully so. The overall economy is impacted by the number of people who are suffering from diseases such as high blood pressure, which is directly linked to poor eating habits. While we’re always being encouraged to stick with healthy eating habits, it is also easier than ever to depend on fast food and other convenience items that are not beneficial for us. Most likely, a lot of people assume that it takes too much work to eat healthily and that they will need to drastically alter their lifestyle. It is possible, though, to make several simple changes that can start to make a positive impact to our day-to-day eating habits.
Initially, you will have to be very careful when food shopping that you don’t unthinkingly put things in your cart that you no longer wish to eat. For example, has it crossed your mind to check how much sugar and salt are in your breakfast cereal? Having a bowl of oatmeal will supply you with the energy to face the day while protecting your heart at the same time. You don’t like eating oatmeal on its own, try adding fresh fruits that have other healthy nutrients and as such, one simple change to your diet has been achieved.
As you can see, it is not difficult to begin making healthy eating a part of your daily lifestyle.

- Use 1 large onion (diced)
- Get 8 cloves garlic (crushed and roughly chopped) or 6 T. minced
- Take 1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
- Get 4 T. chili powder
- Provide 2 T. paprika
- Prepare 2 T. oregano
- Take 1 T. ground black pepper
- Provide Salt (to taste)
- Take 1 lg. bottle V8 juice
- Get 1 T. liquid smoke (optional)
- Provide 2 T. cocoa powder or 1/4 cup dark chocolate (optional)
- Get Juice of one lime (optional)
Steps to make Ted's Chili:
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet, drain grease and add to crockpot or large stew pot.
- Sear the cubed meat until browned on the outside and add to the pot. NOTE: does not have to be cooked through
- Strain and rinse the beans and add to pot. Also add the canned tomatoes plus the juice.
- Add diced onions and half of the diced peppers to the pot. Then add the rest of the ingredients. Wait until an hour before serving to add the rest of the peppers. NOTE: waiting to add peppers helps to keep their texture…this is optional
- Top off your crockpot with V8 juice or add about half of the bottle if using an oversized stew pot. Simmer the mixture on low for a few hours. The chili should naturally thicken and the stew meat will become tender.
- NOTE: For spicier chili, feel free to add a small can of chipotle peppers or diced jalapeños. Other optional ingredients I like to occasionally add include sweet corn, poblano peppers, diced carrots, etc.
Ted's Hearty Chili This really is best if it's allowed to simmer for the day and reheated the next day. Also its much easier to make in a large batch. This is ballparked, and I taste as I go.) I don't care what Texas says about chili (and a few other things)—I use both beans and meat. Also, I make it differently every time, so just use this "recipe" as a template, and taste as you go.
