The ingredients needed to cook Paniyaram (appe):
- Take 3-4 cups Idli batter
- You need 3 onions
- You need 1 tbsp chilli ginger paste
- Take 1 tsp Bengal gram (chana dal)
- Get 1 tsp Black gram lentil(urad dal)
- Take 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds, cumin seeds
- Take to taste Salt
- Take 1/4 tsp soda
- Prepare as required Water
- You need as required Oil
Instructions to make Paniyaram (appe):
- Chopped onions and put salt in the batter.
- Take a pan put 2- 3 tbsp Oil heat up then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds after it starts crackling add chana dal, urad dal, after it turns brown in colour add chopped onions and cook until golden brown then add ginger chilli paste mix well add salt to taste mix well and then put it in idli batter.
- Add soda in the batter and mix well. Adjust the consistency by adding water.now take appe pan heat up then fill it with 1/4th oil in all the rounds then add batter to it and cook on medium flame from both sides. Serve with coconut chutney.
I have added more bananas than what is generally added in appams.
