The ingredients needed to cook Kerala upma:
  1. Provide 1 cup rava or semolina
  2. Use 2 cups water
  3. Prepare 6-8 shallots or small onion sliced
  4. Take 2 green chillies finely chopped
  5. You need 1 sprig curry leaves
  6. Provide as per taste Salt
  7. Take 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  8. Take 1.5 tbsp ghee
Steps to make Kerala upma:
  1. Take a pan and roast the rava on a low flame till good aroma comes. Keep aside
  2. Heat a Kadai and add ghee to it. When the ghee is hot enough, add mustard seeds. As it splutters add onions, green chillies and curry leaves.
  3. Saute for a minute in medium flame. Add salt required. Now add water and let it boil
  4. When the water starts boiling, reduce the flame. Add the roasted rava slowly, and also keep on stirring in order to avoid in forming lumps.
  5. Keep on stirring till the rava gets absorbed and cooked well. Switch off the heat
